The Evolution of Open Office Spaces
Balancing collaboration with privacy in corporate fit-outs and interior design.
For the last decade, the open-plan office was the gold standard for corporate design, promised to boost collaboration and transparency. However, post-pandemic data suggests that the lack of privacy has actually hindered productivity in some sectors. The current trend is shifting towards the "Hybrid Office."
This design philosophy prioritizes flexibility. Instead of rows of identical desks, modern fit-outs include "neighborhoods"—designated zones for specific teams. These are complemented by soundproof pods for focus work and phone calls. The goal is to provide a variety of environments so employees can choose where they work best based on the task at hand.
Acoustics have become a primary focus in interior construction. We are using advanced sound-absorbing materials that double as aesthetic features, such as felt baffles and acoustic wall panels.
Biophilic design is also playing a huge role. Integrating living green walls, natural lighting, and organic textures helps reduce stress and improve air quality. A successful office fit-out today isn't just about fitting the maximum number of people into a room; it's about creating a holistic environment that supports mental well-being and efficient workflow.
